Supplement Plan F used to be the most popular Medicare Supplement. It is a plan that includes each supplemental expense, making it the most useful plan for most seniors. Unfortunately, it came with a high price tag so not every senior could afford to buy it.
Because of that, the Medicare Supplement Plan F 2020 has been terminated. Many private insurance companies are selling it. However, it is not available to the general public.
But where is Plan F now and how much it will cost you?
What Happened to Plan F
This Supplement plan is no longer offered and you cannot find any information about it on any insurers’ websites. The reason for this is that it has received a discontinued status for a while now because of the new law. The new rule restricted the selling of this plan to the market.
With the latest bill, the only seniors who could avail this plan are the ones who subscribed for it before it has been discontinued. In other words, new subscribers cannot get it. Those who have a different Supplement plan cannot switch to Plan F.
The exorbitant price tag of Plan F is the reason for its discontinued status. Most insurers charged their subscribers with outrageous prices because of the prestige associated with the full coverage plan.
They did it because Plan F could offer peace of mind and seniors would grab that opportunity because they thought that a single plan would take care of everything. But not every senior could afford it so Medicare pulled it off the market.
The new rule will not accept new subscribers for Plan F. Now, the only individuals who could access it are the ones who have signed up for it. If you have subscribed to this plan, then you can renew it and use it for the foreseeable future.
However, if you cancel it, you can no longer sign up for this plan again. It works the same way as other plans that have been discontinued. Many insurers are still offering them but only to existing subscribers. After canceling the Plan F subscription, you cannot take it back.
Plan F Coverage
Plan F is considered as a full-coverage plan. But most seniors do not know what it means exactly.
This plan is designed to pay for all the supplemental expenses. These expenses could be copayment, coinsurance, and deductible of Part A. It would also pay for Part B’s deductible, copayment, and other charges.
Plan F would also cover nursing care coinsurance, foreign travel exchange and first three pints of blood. These are all supplemental expenses and only Plan F could provide full coverage.
Unfortunately, not all seniors required full coverage. They can easily save money by simply paying a few expenses from their own money.
Plan F Cost
The government’s decision to discontinue this plan is probably for the best considering the exorbitant price tag associated with it. In fact, it is higher now that it was before.
This plan is going to be more expensive for those who wish to renew this plan because insurers can dictate the price tag for it. Because these insurers can no longer accept new subscribers, they want to make money by charging high fees from their existing subscribers.
That said, we can expect that Medicare Supplement Plan F 2020 to have a higher price tag than it was last year. The prices will increase at a higher rate than other beneficial Supplement plans.
This event happens because Plan F has entered a closed risk pool. The prices go up because only a few individuals could obtain it and no new subscribers are allowed. Thus, the price tag could offset the inflation cost.
Another reason its prices are going up is that many seniors are dropping it to obtain a new plan. Most of them choose Plan G or Plan N. These Supplement plans offer nearly the same coverage as Plan F, but they have a better price. That’s why seniors are opting for them over the more expensive Plan F.
We suggest looking into Plan G and Plan N if you are planning to renew your Plan F. When you look at what these plans could do, you may consider them to have better plans than Plan F. Plans G and N are more economical and they offer value to customers.
Plan F will have the same coverage as it was before for the coming year. However, its value is depreciating. With that in mind, only a few individuals can say that this plan is worth it.
If there are changes going to happen to this expensive plan, we will update the information on this site. We will show you the charges for this plan from different insurers. In that way, you can easily compare the rates. We recommend comparing this plan to other plans to know a huge difference.
