Medicare Plans 2020
Medicare plans give seniors all sorts of options for healthcare insurance coverage. The Original Medicare plans does a great job of meeting the needs of many seniors, but it isn’t going to be enough for some people. There are some additional coverage Medicare plans for 2020 that we want to tell you about- Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplements.
These two kinds of healthcare plans offer you greater insurance coverage than Original Medicare, and that powerful coverage can give you peace of mind and make it easy for you to pay your medical bills throughout the year.
Medicare Advantage-Powerful Cover at an Affordable Price
Many times, seniors will not be covered adequately by their healthcare plans and will try to get some smaller insurance plans to make up that coverage for them. They may sign up for multiple plans that work together to meet their needs, but it is often more economical to simply sign up for one powerful plan, such as Medicare Advantage. This is a privately sold insurance plan that does not have a set price, but it does come with standardized coverage. That means that every Medicare Advantage plan is required to have some specific coverage.
This would be coverage for Medicare parts A and B, all emergency medical services and any urgently needed medical care. What many Advantage plans offer is coverage on top of that basic, required cover, though. They may cover you for an entire Medicare Part D drug plan, taking care of many prescription drug costs for you. They may also cover you for expenses related to vision, hearing and general wellness, such as checkups, hearing aids and more.
Advantage plans are often reasonably priced, and you can use our website to see what the rates are. We can show you a list of prices for these plans in your area. It is important that you get local rates when you are sourcing prices, since the rates can change from one place to another.
The cost of Medicare Advantage plans tends to be about $65 for month, but that varies from $0 up to $300, in many cases. You can find Advantage plans with very low premiums, but you will often have to pay a sizable deductible in those cases. Once again, check our site for pricing information. This can help you to make a more informed decision and tell you if Advantage plans are even affordable for you.
One thing to note about Advantage plans is that they will not be accepted everywhere that Medicare is. With Medicare plans, you can expect coverage anywhere that Medicare is accepted, at any medical facility that honors its plans. Medicare Advantage plans are more restrictive. They will only be accepted where a particular insurer’s plans are accepted. So, if you bought your Medicare Advantage plan through Cigna, then you can only get full coverage from your plan at hospitals, pharmacies, clinics and doctors’ offices where Cigna plans are going to be honored.
These kinds of Medicare plans for 2020 are not without some options to help you there, though. You can be covered partially outside of the network if you choose a Medicare Advantage plan that is classified as a PPO. This will be denoted in the name, and a PPO plan gives you partial coverage outside the network and full coverage on the network.
If you want to pay less for your plan, though, then you should consider an HMO Advantage plan. This will cover you full on the network but will not provide any coverage outside of the network. It costs less than a PPO plan, though, so it’s disadvantages even out with its advantages.
Medicare Supplements- Strengthening the Original Medicare Coverage
Supplement plans are a different kind of Medicare option for seniors. They are made specifically to fill in the gaps that Original Medicare leaves for you. While the Original Medicare plan does a good job of covering common medical expenses, it also leaves a lot for you to pay out of pocket, and the Supplement plans are designed to cover expenses like deductibles, copayments, coinsurance and more that were left for you to take care of.
You can be covered by your Supplement plan for the deductibles related to both Medicare parts A and B, as well as the copayments for those same parts. You can also be covered for the excess charges on Medicare Part B services and any hospice coinsurance costs for Medicare Part A. Nursing care coinsurance can be covered as well, as can any leftover blood costs for the blood used in surgery and other medical treatments for the year. If you have to be transported to a foreign country for emergency medical care, then much of that cost can be covered as well.
There are eight active Supplement plans to pick from, and each of these have standardized coverage that Medicare has created. This plans cannot be changed at all by the private insurance companies that sell them, but the prices are entirely up to the insurance carriers.
